About Holly McRoberts

Holly McRoberts is a Learning Specialist who LOVES to play chess! She has her MA in Special Education and is currently the NM State Women's Chess Champion. She has traveled all over the world playing chess and was the very first American to play tournament chess in Botswana. Although she learned how the pieces moved when she was 5 years old, she didn't know anything about chess strategy, tactics, etc., until she was 23 years old. Since then, she has achieved numerous milestones, including:

  • Winning the NM State Women's Chess Championship seven times.

  • Teaching reading, math, and chess at middle and high schools.

  • Tutoring students to excel in various subjects and chess, significantly improving their skills and confidence.

  • Reducing student behavioral incidents through effective strategies and interventions.

Holly wants to share her passion and secrets/tips/hints that she has learned with others. She wants to foster or rekindle a love for chess in all students. QueenHJM Chess is a result of her dedication to making chess accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

QueenHJM Chess is designed for students of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to advanced players. It aims to teach beginners, novices, intermediate, and advanced chess players to enhance their love for the game and increase their strategy and tactics. This will give them a place to make friends who share their interests.

Testimonial

“Holly's supportive attitude and encouraging demeanor have made a significant difference in my son's engagement and enthusiasm for chess. Despite the challenges of online learning, she has managed to connect deeply with with him, leveraging her background in special education to cater to his quiet and reserved nature.

She takes the time to understand our family's unique needs and goals for chess, adapting her teaching methods accordingly. Her dedication and personalized approach have not only improved my son's chess skills, but also his confidence and willingness to express himself. We are truly grateful for her imoact on our son's development."
